„Since March this year, nine monks and a nun in Tibet have taken the extreme step of self–immolation to protest the continued Chinese occupation of Tibet. Six of them died and the fate of the other four remain unknown. The situation remains tense and posters appearing around Ngaba town and Kirti Monastery warn that if the present situation of oppression continues many more people are prepared to give their lives in protest.“
